“Impiatta l’impatto”
“Impiatta l’impatto” [“Fight impact on your plate”] is our project run in partnership with climate consultancy firm MUGO that highlights the climate impact of our dietary choices in schools.
How does what we choose to eat affect environmental impact? Starting from calculation of the CO2eq emissions generated by preparation of the dishes on the menu, the project offers new healthy, tasty, plant-based recipes with lower environmental impact, tailored to children’s nutritional needs. The project began in the Municipality of Bastia Umbra, offering a low environmental impact menu in primary schools once a week. When the trial ended at the close of the school year, it had involved a total of about a thousand meals a day with an average climate impact on the days concerned of 0.581 tonnes of CO2eq. The total impact was compensated through the purchase of certified Carbon Credits (Gold Standard and VCS) supporting forestation, generative farming and water filtration projects. Learn more here
