Social sustainability starts with wellbeing

Inclusion and equal opportunities

A member of the management team of the Medlavitalia-Forsafe group, Luca Buzio has worked in organisational wellbeing for years. For a company, analysing the internal climate and identifying strengths and areas for improvement is a fundamental step towards building a successful future, especially for an organisation as complex as Camst group.

We are here at the headquarters of Camst group, a company operating in the food service and facility sectors, with which the Medlavitalia-Forsafe group has developed an important project, especially in the period we are going through.

Supporting complex organisations in assessing organisational wellbeing is one of our missions. That is exactly why Camst chose us as a partner, after two years of pandemic, to ask people about their experience of professional relationships, internal communication, leadership style and the management of resources within work teams.

Because today the challenge for companies is not only environmental sustainability, but also social sustainability. This is the aspect that matters most to their internal stakeholders, the workers, who then become promoters of positive messages and, through this process, develop a bond and an attachment to their organisation.

For several years companies have been investing with growing conviction in corporate welfare policies, trying to make their workplaces ever more welcoming and attractive for people.

This idea, these initiatives and these projects rest on the concept that taking care of your people can translate into a positive relationship with those same people. The survey at Camst was particularly complex from an organisational point of view: over 10,000 workers spread across the whole country, with varied digital skills and access.

We sampled around 3,000 workers, representing the entire Camst population according to a series of variables: gender, age, length of service, job role, geographical distribution and country of origin. The response exceeded even the most optimistic forecasts. A 70% participation rate is a measure of people’s trust in Camst. We investigated various aspects, such as work resources, change, job security and workload, but also aspects such as physical wellbeing, psychological wellbeing and lifestyles.

Looking at the results, the most positively striking aspect, partly because it was unexpected, is the figure on job security. Over 90% of Camst workers said they have confidence in their job. This figure is the best recognition of the commitment the organisation has shown over these two years of pandemic.

Organisational wellbeing assessments are a powerful tool for companies that want to understand their own dynamics and internal organisational strategies, identify areas of vulnerability and potential improvement, and take positive action.
