Letter to stakeholders
80 years of hard work, relationships and shared growth
Dear Readers, 2025 is a special year for Camst, since it marks the 80th anniversary of our foundation. Eighty years of hard work, relationships, growth, responsible everyday choices and shared commitment, which have built what we are today and lead us towards what we want to become.
The value of the Sustainability Report we’re presenting this year is even more profound because it comes in a continually evolving context: fittingly it was in June, the month dedicated to celebrating our anniversary, that we achieved B Corp certification. This has made our commitment to a more sustainable future even stronger and more determined, ensuring we keep contributing to the well-being of communities and the environment.
The year that’s just ended brought many important results and major changes. The general meeting of members approved the 2024 financial statements with impressive figures: total revenues of €612.5 million and €33.7 million of profit. For Camst, the parent company, revenues were €547.2 million, with profit of €7 million and net equity of more than €173 million. These figures are now equal to, or in some cases better than, the pre-pandemic data.
The members’ meeting also elected the new Board of Directors, which I have retained the honour of chairing. The election was the culmination of a participatory process involving hundreds of members at eight local meetings, an invaluable opportunity for discussion that once again proved the strength of our cooperative organisational model.
Alongside our new 2025-2029 business plan – which aims for ambitious growth, with a target of revenues of €733 million by 2029 – we also presented the first Strategic Sustainability Plan in our history. It’s a fundamental step, which gives the same level of importance to our economic, social and environmental performance. Because, today more than ever, growing means not just generating economic value but doing so in a fair, participatory, regenerative way.
Bearing this in mind, although based on our 2024 report, this Sustainability Report is the first we have issued, in voluntary form, in accordance with the new ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards), which set higher and higher demands in terms of analysis, traceability and transparency. In response to this challenge, we’ve undertaken a major digitalisation of the data collection and management processes, to make the information provided even more reliable, accessible and timely.
In this last year we’ve also thought long and hard about the founding principles of our cooperative’s identity, to adapt them to today’s context and the changes integral to the life of an organisation like ours. Our new mission, vision and charter of values are the outcome of a participatory processes involving both young and long-established workers, who came together in an intergenerational workshop to provide their joint answer to an all-important question: what are the values we want to be central to Camst’s future? The ideas, priorities and languages that emerged during the discussions were different but complementary, and have generated a shared, up-to-date, authentic vision.
With the “Il tempo di fare bene” [“Time to do good”] campaign, we decided to restore the focus to the value of time, which has never been as precious as it is today. The time to care, listen and innovate. After 80 years in operation, we know that it takes time to do good: to find out what’s really needed, construct genuine relationships and act responsibly, even in a high-speed world.
The achievement of B Corp certification is the tangible result of a process of commitment and dedication, which classifies us as one of the companies that set out to use their business as a positive force, generating value for the entire community. It’s an important milestone, following on from our transformation into a Benefit Cooperative Corporation in 2023 and strengthening our commitment to keep pursuing continual improvement, transparency and the common good with consistency and accountability.
We know our track record is impressive, but we don’t believe our achievements mean we can rest on our laurels and pat ourselves on the back. Quite the contrary; every goal we reach encourages us to push forward with even greater determination along our chosen path, aware of the challenges that still await us.
We extend our sincere thanks to all of you – our members, partners, customers and vendors and the communities we work with. It’s your dialogue and our open, constructive engagement that will enable us to continue to improve.
We’re going to keep taking the time we need to do good.
The Chairman
Francesco Malaguti
