Animal welfare
A matter of respect
How do we work to ensure both the quality of the final product and service and a positive impact on society and the environment? By choosing raw materials that themselves prioritize respect. For the environment and those who populate it.
Sustainability for us is synonymous with respect, starting with respect for the conditions that contribute to animal welfare. In fact, Camst is committed to ensuring that these policies are also shared by suppliers. The company has updated its Animal Welfare policy, based on respect for the Five Freedoms, used to define animal welfare conditions.
For several years, supply chains have sprung up in which hens are raised on the ground, in spaces where they are free to move around and express their species behaviors.
We have chosen to oppose the constrictive confinement of animals in this supply chain by partnering with CIWF (Compassion in World Farming) since 2015, when Camst set out on a path to eliminate the use of eggs and egg products from cage-raised hens, setting 2023 and 2025 as targets respectively.
In fact, by 2023, we have reached 100 percent purchase of eggs from free-range hens, thanks to the conversion of products purchased from different suppliers throughout the country.
For pasteurized eggs, which account for a major share of egg products, a gradual conversion process will be initiated at major suppliers in 2024. This approach will mitigate the economic impact, with the goal of completing the transition by the end of 2025.
